All it did was make me remember how disappointing it is that we are never getting a new Half Life game. Sad face.

Try playing Half-Life 2: Episode 2.

We bought my son a Steam gift card for Christmas. Portal 2 was one of his selections.
Makes a father proud. :)

I haven’t played the second one, I probably should have bought it during the Steam sale. In any case, the first one was so much fun. The portal effect is really cool and I remember thinking how cool it was to have a FPS puzzle game, especially when you have to factor momentum into your portal use.

A lot of people like to decry a lot of the big producers like EA and Ubisoft and sing the praises of Valve. I like Valve, I really do. What I don’t like is that since they aren’t beholden to stock holders they make whatever they want when they want. Personally, I feel what they want doesn’t line up with what consumers want. If Half Life was owned by EA we would be on Half Life 8 by now, for better or worse.

Maybe. I guess it comes down to whether you’d rather have a lot of game to play but have it watered down and ruined versus never getting anything at all.

You should look up Portal Stories: Mel, it’s pretty great.
If you have Portal 1 you should also grab Portal Pro, it’s a really great mod that I’m almost done with, it’s all about logically solving puzzles rather than trick-shot portalling.

I have played it before, but I’m not going back down that road.

Supposedly they ARE working on HL3, but only have around 10 or so people on it at any given time. I think they just cannot reconcile a good ending, and they are making money hand over fist on other (multiplayer) projects so there is no business sense in making another Half Life installment that might end up like Mass Effect 3 did.

Ive heard that as well, my opinion is that any ending is better than no ending. I need closutr. My deepest hope is that it’s a launch title for a new source engine.

I agree with this 100%. I am not looking for a life changing ending.... just an ending. I keep going back and forth over whether they will finish it. I really feel if they can’t produce the game themselves, they should pay a trusted outside group to make/finish the game. I really feel Valve owes it to us to finish the story.

I honestly don’t think Valve knows where to go with the series. I also think because they’ve waited so long they know it’ll be hard to please the die hards. Since Valve employees work on what they want, I doubt many want to tackle that task.

All true but they still owe us an ending. If I was put in charge I would have episode 3 developed as a short game to end the story found in episode 2. I would also release it for free with no conditions. Then they can storyboard HL3 as a next gen engine super game that will stay in development for a century.

Maybe they’re working on a sweet Portal/Half Life tie in, since they are technically the same timeline/world.

That would be great.
